Wimbledon Brewery Teams up with Greene King on new beer!!!
Wimbledon Brewery have partnered with Suffolk-based brewer Greene King for the first time to brew a new cask beer.
Wimbledon Brewery and Greene King have collaborated to create Windmill Pale, a 3.7% oatmeal pale ale, brewed in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Windmill, the most famous landmark on Wimbledon Common and close to the home of Wimbledon Brewery.
The beer is part of Greene King’s on-going collaboration project with smaller breweries, now in its third year, and is the first collaborative brew of 2017.
The brewer collaboration project sees brewers come together to flex their creative muscles and create beers in new styles, flavours and using new ingredients. The beers become part of Greene King’s annual seasonal cask ale calendar, which is available to pubs across Britain. Windmill Pale is available on the seasonal ale calendar from January to March 2017.
Greene King brewer, Ross O’Hara welcomed Wimbledon brewer, Charlie Long to the Westgate Brewery in Bury St Edmunds in late December 2016 to take a tour of the Georgian-era brew house and start the brewing process for Windmill Pale, created using fine English malted barley, malted oats and classic English hops, including Bramling Cross, and boasting black and redcurrant notes.
Greene King is collaborating with four smaller breweries throughout 2017 and since the project began in 2015, Greene King brewers have worked with 12 breweries to create new seasonal cask beers.
Adam Long, on-trade marketing manager at Greene King, said: “Our collaborative cask beers have been consistently popular with pub goers since this project began to bring together industry expertise and support brewing innovation.
“This year we are working with four breweries on new beers and each brew will be available for an extra month, after research showed drinkers want to see guest beers remain on the bar for longer to allow more opportunities to enjoy them on return visits.
“We are excited to kick off our 2017 brewer collaboration project with our first ever oatmeal ale, Windmill Pale, in partnership with the fantastic team at Wimbledon Brewery.”
